For some, it's shocking that Jesus claims there is a wrong way to pray. He tells us that we are not to "babble" to be heard, or manipulate how long the prayer is, thinking that because you just spent a long time praying, it's a great prayer! We cannot trick God into having our way, and the purpose of prayer is not to prove our godliness. It is important that we talk to God and build a relationship with Him through prayer. God is in control, not us.
The prayer that Jesus urges us to pray covers several important aspects that is meaningful to God. The prayer does the following:
-Respects His name and title
-Acknowledges that He rules heaven and earth
-Thanks Him for food
-Asks for forgiveness
-Forgive others
-Ask Him to protect us from evil.
Nothing in this prayer is an act of selfishness. If we pray all these things to God everyday, it will not only cleanse your soul, but also build a powerful relationship with God. Whether we pray out of grief or joy, God hears all prayers that come from the heart.
