Insomnia

From time to time I suffer bouts of insomnia. The sound of the ticking clock is maddening as it marks the minutes of rest lost with the same rigor it marks the dwindling time until I must get up and ready for the work day. Last night was just such a night. Today I read Psalm 63:6 and have a brand new perspective for facing my next sleepless night. In this verse David prays, "I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night." I've never thought of David as experiencing insomnia.

From the Life Application Bible note for Psalm 63:6--

During sleepless, uncomfortable nights, David thought about God. Instead of counting sheep, he meditated on his Shepherd. He reviewed all the ways God had already helped him, and he greeted the next day with songs of praise. In quiet moments or wakeful nights, make it a point to count examples of God's faithfulness to you. Doing so is far more likely to give you rest than any other items you might count!
