NEVER Break Your Covenant With God

Man, after reading these verses I was more certain than I was before to keep my promises to God because He really wants to trust us. Just reading that these people made a vow to God that they would release the Judean slaves and free both men and women was awesome, but eventually they went back on their vow and took back their slaves which was where the vow breaking began.

The cool thing about God is that He tells you EVERYTHING that you just did....just so that you wouldn't be confused as to why you were being punished. He always gives us "fair warning" and there are no surprises with God.

So, God gives them the worse punishment that will make them slaves or die of disease or from war.

Sad right?

This just says that God hears my promises to Him. Why? Because He makes promises of His own to us and He ALWAYS keeps His word.

Now, if God thinks that highly of us, mere humans, to keep His promises to us....shouldn't we do the same for Him?

Ok, so lets run through....when you're in a tough spot and you pray, "God, if you get me outta this situation I'll...."

What do you do? First of all, you don't bribe God. He sees right through it and you may end up worse off that before. Just pray to Him and ask for help. Once you make that promise to Him....He will hold you accountable because God listens to us.

Or what about this one.....you get your check and you pull out your tithe, but a few days later you need more money for a bill and you pull from that tithe.....hmm

Isn't that the same thing? You may not have said anything, but putting tithe aside says you made a covenant with God to return to Him His money.....wait....you know YOU didn't make that money all by yourself do you? Oh yeah, it's Gods.

But that's another story....

Anyway, all I'm saying is that God wants to trust us and form a friendship with us but He can't do it if we can't even keep our commitments with Him. So, don't be an "indian giver"....be a man (or woman) of your word and watch Gods blessings flow!

Peace!

Mel
