The Love of God: The Greatest Commandment, and the Greatest Blessing
In our Not a Fan series at church we have talked about the difference between focusing on following the rules and focusing on a relationship with God. In this passage Jesus says the rules are all summed up in loving God full on with everything you've got as well as loving others as much as you love yourself. This really simplifies following the rules. Not to say that it will always be easy. We are guaranteed that it won't be easy. We just need to try to focus on our relationship with God and make Him our Lord and focus on following Him with everything we've got. If we can do this then He will become more and more a part of our lives as we grow closer to Him. As He becomes a greater part of our lives then He will be revealed to others through us. We will be able to share the true nature of God to others. Of our one true God who is alive, and who IS Love and IS Hope and IS Grace and IS Forgiveness and IS Peace and IS Joy and IS Strength. This results in less and less selfishness on our part as well, which I firmly believe is at the root of a majority of our sins. A's one of my friends pointed out tonight, following God and growing closer in the relationship with Him also starts to change the "rules" into a privilege, they became something that you want to do. They become a blessing, not only to you, but to others as well.
