A World Completely Different

I love Peter. He puts his foot in his mouth so often. It gives hope to people like me! Just a verse before Christ predicted that there were some who would not die until they saw the Kingdom of God come with it's power. Here Peter, James, and John are privy to one of the great scenes of the Bible - the transfiguration. The visible world peels away to reveal the underlying and superior spiritual world. They get a glimpse of Christ's glory and see the glory in which men will share as they witness His conversation with Moses and Elijah. They even hear the voice of God audibly! The transcendence of this event seems so understated in this passage! The voice that shook Mount Sinai in thunderous roar here again spoke! Of course Peter (and the rest of us who are heirs to his audacity) opened his mouth to say something silly and of course promptly inserted his own foot! Perhaps there was familiarity with Christ that gave him such boldness. Christ may even have valued this trait of his. And one thing I'm sure that God and Christ remembered often was who such a man as Peter, and all the disciples were going to be. Here Moses and Elijah stand with Christ glorified. Yet they too were foolish men at one time. All the disciples, indeed all of the Church would grow an mature. I gather great confidence from this passage. It confirms to me that just as God has promised elsewhere that He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it.
