Make Our Thoughts Count
The last part of this verse really grabbed me. "...we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
EVERY THOUGHT!
Wow. We think our ACTIONS are important but what is an action without a thought first?! Paul is saying that every thought must be obedient to Christ. This really underscores the importance of what we 'feed' ourselves. Are our thoughts of Christ? Or are they filled with worry about our jobs? Or anger at our spouse (or ex!)? Or fear about money? Or preoccupation with who's going to win American Idol??
And our words reveal our thoughts! So pay attention in conversations. What are you speaking about and why? Is it 'obedient to Christ'?
This really reinforces to me what I learned in David Platt's 'Radical' study last summer. If you're really living 'all out' for God it will be evident in your actions and your words because FIRST your thoughts are of Him, and of being obedient to Him.
Lord, thank You for this reminder. May my every thought be of You and of being obedient to You. Let this Easter weekend be a reminder that You didn't die so that we could take You and our lives for granted. Let my every thought count by leading to a word or an action that glorifies You!! Amen!!
