good vs. evil

The first line of genesis 3 states that the servant is the craftiest of any creature...this implies evil. Evil in that he is deceiving, harsh, false, tempting, etc. It is difficult to grasp the concept of evil...why is there evil in the world? Why did God create evil?

There are a couple things I have learned/thought through throughout my life and schooling. First of all, in order to feel a sense of joy, happiness, good there has to be an opposite otherwise we would not know the difference. Would we really not know good if we did not have evil? Second of all, God did not create "evil". God created good and evil came because of good. It's like a bakery creating a donut. The hole in the donut is not created but when the donut is made the hole appears, same with evil...when good is made evil appears. This still throws me off regarding the serpent, yes there is evil in the world but was the servant made evil, made good and became evil, or simply a representation of what evil is?
