Come Work With Me!
Matthew 11:28-30. Jesus wasn't offering a vacation.... He spoke in farming terms, the language of his audience. Do farmers get a vacation? Not really... no matter what else happens, the cows need milking, there are crops to weed or harvest, and ground to be prepared...Always. Jesus was saying, "Come work alongside me in MY field...we'll be like a pair of oxen, & you can learn how to live & work right next to me where i can help you...I'll even carry the biggest part of the load." The Jewish agricultural practice was to always yoke a young ox with a more mature & experienced one, who guided the young one in the work. Bottom line: These verses do not promote a life of leisure with Jesus...But they promise help, guidance, peace, rest & joy in the journey if we are connected to Him. 4/12/12 kas
