Belief and true love

Some might be tempted to assume from John 3:16 that cognitive assent is all that is necessary for salvation. In these verses, however, Jesus is linking the notion of believing with actively coming to the light. Similarly, he equates unbelief with avoiding the light, instead, preferring their own lifestyle. Those who are not condemned, who by proxy must also be true believers, also exhibit a love for the light that is actively expressed through good deeds. This shows that when Jesus is talking about belief, he's talking about true belief that takes the only next reasonable (Romans 12:1) step -- a life of committed and sacrificial obedience.
