“Then build an altar there to the LORD your God, using natural, uncut stones. You must not shape the stones with an iron tool.

You don't need to pretend to be perfect when you come to God. Simply come to him as you are. Consecrate yourself and he will make you fit for whatever task he wants you to do. It may not be comfortable at first, but with all the other rocks rubbing against you, you will eventually get rid of all the rough edges and fit perfectly in the formation of Gods altar.
