Getting it Right

Last night my Bible Study group were talking about the plight of children in Africa and the atrocities they face. We noted the controversial methods used to help these children. One friend suggested that God uses unusual methods ( true) and inferred that if we are doing the right thing in Gods name then the method must be right.... The story of the returning ark suggests otherwise. Bringing the Ark back was right but how David went about it the first time was wrong. It is easy to become passionate about the needs about us, and such Passion stirs us to action (which is far better than lethargy, and thinking only of our own needs) but we must take care not to rush in, not to think through our plan, not to take on something that we can't finish (which make things worse), not to neglect,in the process, the other things God has called us to. Jesus talked about counting the cost (Lk 14:25-34).
The second time David went to bring back the Ark he made sure he had found out how to do it properly and had prepared a place to bring it to.

An aspect I really admire about David in this story is his determination to see something through. He consulted God and knew that it was His will to have the Ark returned...and then everything went wrong.... How often would we take that as a sign that we had misunderstood and that surely this couldn't be God's will, and walk away. Not David, he looked deeper, was willing to examine himself and willing to take responsibility for not having done things properly...You have to admire that...I pray I can do likewise.
