The Bloodline of Jesus [v2]

In the Gospel according to Matthew, it starts off with the genealogy of Jesus. Matthew’s intended audience was the Jewish people. His intent was to solidify the fact that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of being the “promised” seed coming from the loins of Abraham. Matthew started Jesus’ genealogy at Abraham because all of the Jewish people knew and awaited for the promise seed.

If we were to analyze the bloodline of Jesus, we would see that he did not come from a pure Jewish bloodline. We can take comfort in the fact that Jesus, like many of us, had a “jacked up” history of descendants; however, it’s not where you came from – it’s where you going. It’s not how you start, but how you finish. Jesus had a harlot in his bloodline by the name of Rahab. He had a grandmother by the name of Tamar who tricked her father-in-law into fathering her child. He had king David in his line who not only stole another man’s wife, but had him killed in the process. I can go on and on, but the fact is, Jesus did not let his bloodline prevent him for being the Man, the Priest, the Prophet, the King, the Messiah, and Sacrificial Lamb that God the Father called him to be: 100% God and 100% Man.

If Jesus could “overcome” his past as far as bloodline – why do we struggle with ours?
