Why a Year of Rest?
Several reasons that could still be applicable fo us today are: 1) If we plant the ground regularly it really does need a rest 2) This is an opportunity for the poor and the stranger among to eat freely what grows and possibly the most important 3) It is an opportunity for our faith in God to be tested and grow. The Israelites why farmers and ranchers by trade and what a test it is for a farmer to not plant a crop and instead trust that God will provide in the seventh and fiftyeth years. How honoring to God when we trust Him this much!
