Day 4 - God Hates, and Pleasure Is Pointless
- Proverbs 6:16 (NIV)
- Proverbs 6:17 (NIV)
- Proverbs 6:18 (NIV)
- Proverbs 6:19 (NIV)
- Proverbs 6:25 (NIV)
- Ecclesiastes 2:1 (NIV)
- Ecclesiastes 2:2 (NIV)
- Ecclesiastes 2:26 (NIV)
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up dissension in the community. (Proverbs 6:16-19 TNIV)
God hates what sin has done to his people, and he is disappointed in our actions.
I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless. “Laughter,” I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?” (Ecclesiastes 2:1, 2 TNIV)
Solomon has everything so he tries just about everything to see what is pleasurable. He said that pleasure is meaningless. My first thought is, "well this sucks." God blesses us with pleasure that is not meaningless. Solomon is saying buying things for yourself is pointless.
