With a Cry

Psalm 118:5-6New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD,

and he answered by setting me free.

6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid.

What can man do to me?

Anguish, despair, and depression are all types of bondage. In our cry to the Lord, His response is the releasing power of his mercy. I say mercy because, at times, we are the victims of our own traps. Any action we take outside of the will of God, a trap is set. Unfortunately, or fortunately we reap the harvest of the trap.

In context, however, the character has become entangled by the oppression of the enemy. With a cry, the Lord freed him. He understood there was no other name to call on. This setup is a chain-reaction in his mind; the Lord is with me, I will not be afraid knowing that God will hear me.The anguish felt by me could not resist the omnipotence of God.

What can man do to me? What can man put me in that can lock me out of God's grace and mercy? If God be for me, who can be against me?
