Tuesday night sermon at Times Square Church
What they are: Fear and Worry
They are a disturber of your peace and block the road to your future.
Stalkers are usually not recognized. Often appear at night and steal. They deceive.
Psalm 23 says "surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life" however for most people they feel these two stalkers more.
1 Cor 2:3
Prov 25:29
- we would stop worrying about what other people think about us if we realized how seldom they really do!
A healthy fear: fear of God (funny story about fearing the consequence of forgetting wife's b-day or not noticing a change of hair style.)
The not healthy fear: something you can't do anything about.
1) they keep you from going where you should go. Gideon used as the example.
Men sent home because they went home instead of going to war. Judges 7:3. It was a fear test. Those men who didn't join the battle missed out on the opportunity to experience God's victory.
Worry is like a rocking chair, it will give you something to do but you won't get anywhere.
Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorry, it empties today of its strength.
1 John 4:8
2) fear and worry will make you go places you should not go! - Elijah used as an example who fled to the wilderness from Jezebel
Makes you have the "quits" it's a disease called "quititis"
Don't cave into fear and worry, because you'll end up in a dark cave where God does not want you to be. Fear and worry keeps you from God's best. It can take you out of the will of God and cause you to suffer from temptations and circumstances you shouldn't have!
3) God has an order of protection that He issues to keep the stalkers away from you - long before our court system came up with a decree - God issued this ordinance: Psalm 5:11-12 - we are surrounded with His shield!
