What do you see?

Ah the mystery of faith. Why is it a mystery? I asked myself that so many times, yet without it we can't please God.

The reason is simple;

And it is impossible to to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exist...(Heb 11:6)

Okay, I get the picture or at less I think I do.

Yeah i know, where are you going with this, right!

Well here is my answer: It is the distraction of life that we encounter. They really show where we are at. It is what we see that usually overrides what we don't see.

Jesus gives a first had look at this as we read in John 20: 24-25;

One of the twelve disciples, Thomas, was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, we have seen the Lord!

But he replied, I won't believe it unless I see the nail wounds in His hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in His side."

Is this a unusual reaction? No really. Thomas saw Jesus crucified, died, how in the world would you think that you see Him, for all I know He is an impostor.

Yeah, I agree with your possible thinking. Here was one of the 12, being taught by Jesus and yet what he saw happen took away what he learned.

Talked about a little faith? Aren't we all like this is some form?

If you said no, I congratulate you, but if said yes, then I you are part of the majority of Christians. We do have doubts and what we see in front of us does distract us from the truth.

In my text, we see this once again come to light. The disciples and rowing to get to shore in a storm that came upon them without warning, and all of a sudden Jesus comes walking on the water, in the midst of a storm. The disciples think they are seeing a ghost, but our Lord reassure them that it is Him, and Peter, just being Peter, yells out:

"Lord if that is You tell me to come You, walking on the water."

Jesus replied come, so Peter did and he walked on the water.

Now that is putting his faith in God, he was focus. Yeah go Peter!!

Whoops, Houston, we have a problem here, the wind has just picked up!

Oh my gosh, what am I doing, doing! Lord help me, Peter cries out!

What happen here is simple, He took his eyes off the Lord and place them on the storm.

Yeah, it is a simple fact that we all do this. We think that we are really strong and can withstand anything, and the truth of this matter, is that there are many brothers and sisters that do.

But in reality, this is where, what I believe, unless am the only one who does, slip up in this area of life.

Satan, not only temps with things to mess up our walk with Jesus, he also places distractions in front of us to get our minds off Jesus and onto the problem, such as Peter, though I really can't say this was the case.

The problem is when we see with our eyes, then more then often it rules over our faith. It basically takes it away.

What we need to do in such cases as this is call it a mirage, because if we have faith as a muster seed, we know that Jesus is behind the scene taking issue with it.

The eyes deceive from what the truth of God states.

We all need help in this area of our lives, just like the man who came to Jesus and asked if He would heal his son and Jesus asked him do you believe I can do this? In which he answer I do believe, please Lord help my unbelief.

This man confessed that he was weak and that is what we need to do. Lord helps us and the Lord will indeed help us.

Faith is about believing in the unseen, because in the real world which we see will deceive us.

It all about focusing straight ahead and knowing and trusting that God is there to lift us up in times of troubles, conflicts and storms, and you know that is the bottom line.

It all about taking the teaching from our Lord, and just putting them into practice in our lives so we can each day become more and more like Him.

Then as we grow stronger in our faith, we can say to this mountain, be removed and toss into the sea. We all will become water walkers, we will be able to part the seas and walk through on dry ground. Yes this is the type of faith Jesus exemplified here on earth. We are to do the same.

Don't allow any storms keep you locked up in the boat which may be a safety net, because all that will do is keep us from growing. Just say Lord, tell me to come and then jump out of that boat and keep your eyes on the one who can sustain you, our Lord and Savior.

Be encourage and of good cheer, because no matter what we face or see, Jesus is there walking beside us or as the poem Foot Prints speaks of:

"when you see just one set of foot prints in the sand, that is because I am carrying you."

And who did God say He was when Moses asked Who shall I say sent me to you? (speaking of the children of Israel)

God response" Tell them I AM who sent you!

And who is carrying you in the sand of life when things get tough? "I AM"

Amen
