A Walk on the Darkside

I love King David! Why? Cause he was so human and so open in his emotions. I believe a lot of men in our society if they met King David today, would be astonished. David was a warrior and very definitely comes across as a 'He-man" but when you dig a little deeper, you see that David was so much more. He was honest in his emotions. I don't know if he shared them with his family or his wives, but he did with God. He opened himself up to his father.
So many Christians believe that we have to "show" the world the "happy" side of life. I don't believe that is true. I don't want a relationship with someone I have to hide from? I believe the world needs to see Christians hurting. I believe that is a better testimony. If we are honest, we don't seek God when everything is great. When the finances are under control, we are rolling in the dough. When our kids are doing great, our job is wonderful and our health is good. We don't seek him then, WE SEEK HIM WHEN EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART! That's when the world will see the testimony of the true christian. When we are leaning into God for our strength, for our hope. When we are trusting him, when everyone and everything is falling apart. Why do we suffer, I think it's so a suffering world can get the picture.
David starts Psalm 13 depressed and sure that he has been abandoned by God. He has probably prayed and have the answer come back no, or not yet. Either way we see him begging God, asking for mercy and for his help. But by verse 5, we see David turn from the "darkside" toward the "light". He hasn't seen the end, he is still on the dark but he knows that God is there. He knows the Lord's character and is trusting in it. We will all walk in the dark at some point. When we do, remember that a suffering world is watching that walk. We can testify to what we believe without ever saying a word. Our trust and faith in God during the dark times says more than our words will ever say. Sometimes we need that walk on the darkside to remind us that we are not here to be happy and have a good time, we are here for God's purpose and plan. We are his disciples to lead the lost to him. Remember that when you feel abandoned and lost.
