Can lack of faith be a sin?

As often as I have read my text today, I never really thought about having lack of faith as being a sin.


But when you just sit there for a while and really think about it, yes it really could be.

Why you may asked as I asked myself the same question. The answer? It is telling you where your heart is. In other words, you really don't trust God at all or you are shortening his hand on what He can and will do for you.

What I mean by that is simple as we read verse 22 of Matthew 21

"And all things you ask in prayer, believing you will receive."

Showing a lack of faith will basically hinder your prayer life. If you believe, then it will come to passed, if not nothing.

Ah, but there is a catch here also! If you asked for things of a selfish nature, the chances of that being answered is slim to none, but if your asking in for something that is in Gods will, then it will be answered.

Asking for things that is in the will of God has it rewards and there is no better example then what we read in 1 Kings 3: 5-13

"That night the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and God said; ' What do you what? Ask and I will give it you.'

Solomon replied, ' You showed faithful love to your servant my father, David, because he was honest and true and faithful to you. And you have continued your faithful love for him today by giving him a son to sit on his throne.

Now, O' Lord my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, because I am like a little child who doesn't know his way around and here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted! Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?"

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. So God replied, "Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of enemies, I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! and I will also give you what you have not asked for - riches and fame!

You see, Solomon did not seek riches or fame nor did he seek vengeance against his enemies, he asked for what was in the will of God and was rewarded!

In the same manner that is what we are to seek and then believe it will be answered.

Yet we to often lose faith because when we pray, it is unusually for ourselves and when it don't come to pasted we get frustrated and wonder if this whole prayer thing is worth it.

But that is just one aspect, there are more. There are times when we do prayer yet for things that is in Gods will and nothing seems to happen, God may be delaying His answer to see where we stand with Him or He has answered it and there is a great battle going on that is unseen where Satan and his forces are blocking the way or the Lord has something better in mind.

The things I mention above are just a few, but they are not excuses to lose faith in God or not allow you faith to strengthen! They could just be test to see where we really are at.

But then again, how often does that come to mind? A question I can't answer, but only you can!

If you think I crazy regarding test, look in James, chapter one, verse 2-4

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully develop, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing."

I totally agree with this verse and you know what? It takes a lifetime to learn and grow and it is by standing on Gods word and His promises that He will do what He tells us He'll do is how it works.

Lack of faith is a sin, but it is nothing that can't be corrected. The disciples had to learn and it finally took hold after Jesus ascended to His Father in heaven that they fully understood what mountain moving faith was all about.

We are no different then His disciples, some of the greatest men of the bible.

They had to learn the hard way, being called out by Jesus many time for their lack of faith. Jesus is doing the same today, He is calling us out.

So if you want to move mountains, just believe as Jesus taught us.

Remember what He told; "Nothing is impossible to those who believe."

The secret of faith is believing, and as hard as it might be and get, because the enemy is there to confuse and distract us, we just have to stand on God words and know how to counted those attacks by knowing the Word of God!

It is all there for us to know, the greatest text book ever written from the greatest teacher of all time. Our Lord and Savior.
