Laying the Hand on the Head
I feel like the laying of the hand on the head is a rather intimate posture. In most cultures I know of, modern and ancient, a hand laid on the head is a sign of affection, of endearment. It's such a stark contrast to the following action in preparing animal offerings that I get the feeling we're supposed to notice that. And I wonder if it's an allusion to the Father's hand on the Son during his life on earth, until it was time for his sacrifice?
