Humility .. The Key to Knowing and Walking with God
LORD, my heart is not haughty,
Nor my eyes lofty.
Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me.
Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.(no longer demanding)
Thus, the first 2 verses of this short 3 verse Psalm sets its theme before us. And, although small, its subject is.. giant..when it comes to knowing and walking with the true and living God. How so? …because, the true and living God only reveals himself to, and associates with, the humble. He simply will not abide the proud.
Listen to Jesus’ words on the subject.
“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore.. whoever humbles himself..as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matt 18:3-4
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.Psalm 51:17
James, Jesus’ blunt little half brother (Gal 1:19; Matt 13:55; Acts 15) hit the nail on the head...
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.James 4:10
Want to really know God? It’s not rocket science, as the old saying goes.Getting down on our knees is a very good start.
For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
To revive the spirit of the humble,
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15
And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk.. humbly..with your God?Micah 6:8b
Is Satan telling you the true and living God just wants to play “big shot”? Don't believe that liar! God himself is humble and loves to associate with those who are most like himself. As he himself put it, when he came in the flesh and was dwelling among us,
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.(Jesus’ words) Matt 11:27-29
