Unequally Yoked

Some things you just can't MIX! Believers and unbelievers mix like oil and water!! That is why we are instructed not to be "unequally yoked".. We are too different to be joined together for the same purpose!! This is important to remember before starting a romantic relationship with an unbeliever, going into business with one, being influenced by a book with an unbelieving author, etc
In 2cor6:14, Paul describes how we, as believers, are not to be joined with unbelievers. Of course this is not instructions for us to shut everyone off, but it does insist that the ones closest, and that we are influenced/encouraged by share the same faith (led by the same spirit- the Holy Spirit of God).
Paul used "unequally yoked" to get his listeners to imagine 2 animals of different strengths plowing a field. Can you imagine a dog and a horse tied together to plow a field? There would be all kids of problems using this combination. The lines would not be straight, it would take much longer to finish (even if he could finish at all), the strength of the horse might be all used up by pulling all the weight, etc..
I tend to imagine this scripture illustrated as I described it above; it even has me visualize the horse pulling the full weight of all that he drags to his side, causing the plow to go round and round in circles!!!! Though the horse is doing all he can to complete the job, because he was unequally yoked, he is never able to cover much ground or finish!... the heaviness of plow and the deadweight of the dog were not intended for him to drag... the farmer might be trying to guide the horse, but it is too hard for the horse to go in the right direction with all the unnecessary weight..
But yet if he got would get yoked with another strong horse, the job would get done more efficiently, the best way!!! (without wasting time or effort).
The moral of the story is to not be in close relationship with unbelievers. The Lord has big plans for us and we cannot affort to waste time His TIME!
Prayer- Lord, thank you for connecting me with others like me. Hopefully, the years of walking about in circles is over! Words cannot describe my love for you. Thank you for showing me how to "live in this world, but yet not be OF THIS WORLD". Continue to teach me the way you want me to go! All my love <3 Amen
