This is an example of how sin is the start of a downward spiral!! When David saw Bathsheba, he should have turned away from sin, fighting against it! Instead he embraced the sin "Lust" and started off inquiring about her, then sending for her, and when she came he laid with her... even after he knew she belonged to another man! You will later read that the first sin of "lust", because it was not rejected, grew into many more sins.. After he found out that she was pregnant, he had her husband put on the front lines of battle, where he was killed... so he could take Bathsheba for himself.
David's sin of "Lust" multiplied.. causing him to lie, covet another man's wife, and also murder.
Though we will never be sinless, we too can learn a valuable lesson from this story. We usually know when we're doing something offensive in the eyes of the Lord. And when we find ourselves in situations like this, it is important for us to learn to instantly turn away, rejecting the thought before our sin multiplies, causing destruction and distance from our heavenly father.
Prayer- Thank you Jesus for giving me the most precious gift of the Holy Spirit, to guide me when I have somehow gotten in a position where sin is lurking at my doorstep. Im grateful for the "gift of guilt" I feel when I'm offending you (aka conviction). I love you for finding ways to protect me from this type of downward spiral!! I'm not afraid to admit that you are the only thing good in me! Continue to hold me close. Your GRACE is all I need! Love Always, Me
