Child or Child of God
Children with good sense accept correctin from their parents, but stubborn children ignore it completely - CEV
I did not like being disciplined as a child and the older I got the less I liked it. I accepted the corrections because as a child I had no choice. I don't think I had any more sense than the next child and most people who know me, know that I can be VERY STUBBORN. As a child even more so. So what can I learn from this passage. What is God saying to us here. It's not just wisdom for a child. When disciplined as children, did we learn from it? Did it teach us within the guidelines of our parents rules, to be obedient to them? If it did, then you were accepting of the corrections. If it didn't you were stubborn and rebelled against the authority of your parents, or just plain rebelled.
God is our parent, and the disciplines and corrects us. Just because I am adult, doesn't make me immune. I am still learning this path and as I stumble along, sometimes I take a walk down a side road that God corrects. And sometimes those corrections are painful lessons that I struggle with. I can either accept the corrections, or like a stubborn child rebel and turn away from God.
I hated the phrase my parents used to use when they decided on a discipline. "This hurts me more than it does you" Now as a child, I doubted that very much. As a parent I have learned this to be true. I have also learned, that even though it hurts me as a parent, it hurts my child much worse in the long run. The same is true with God. He disciplines us for our benefit and with good sense we will accept it.
