Laziness
I want to help people as much as the next person and the welfare system, while in theory started out as a good program, has become an albatross around the necks of the taxpayers.
God's word says " If you sleep all the time, you will starve; if you get up and work you will have enough food."And "If you are too lazy to plow, don't expect a harvest."CEV
We reward laziness with benefits, and while I definitely do not want to see someone starve to death, I also don't think it's helping them. I think this laziness leads to all kinds of other problems.
The phrase "Give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day, Teach a man to fish, you will feed him for life." is very applicable. We don't teach or lift a hand to lift up, we enslave generations to be dependent on the government. Did one politician do this? No but consecutive politicians benefit from the process. With each consecutive generation who learns that being lazy and not working benefits them, we lose.
I wish I had an easy answer to the problems for our economy but I don't. I have thoughts like everyone else, but no power. However I think we as the church, need to quit preaching what we think everyone wants to hear (politically correct) and teach the word.
I believe their are those on the welfare rolls, who consider themselves to be Christians who live according to our societies standards, and not those of God. I wonder how they reconcile the words here in Proverbs with the life they lead.
In addition, I believe that if the church (US) took care of their own, their would be no need for the government programs. This is more important than big buildings with big sculptures, big pastors with big salaries. TV ministries that cost millions to support. Millions to evangelize in a way that brings recognition to the church, or the pastor but not necessarily to God. How do we sleep at night knowing that people are starving in the shadow of that nice new building?
When we look at society, we need to accept that it's laziness on our part that started the roll down the hill that has led to the place we are now. We allowed our desires and ego's to get in the way of doing what God has called us to. Before we start pointing fingers, we need to look in the mirror.
