Bless the Lord!
This short little Psalm reminds us that these Psalms were the hymnbook of the people of Israel. Each and every one of them were set to music and sung. There were designated singers who sung the Psalms before the Lord at the temple … night and day. In 1 Chronicles 9:33, we read,
These are the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, who lodged in the chambers, and were free from other duties; for they were employed in that work day and night.
Around the clock then, there was singing before the Lord at the temple. And, I strongly suspect that is true in Heaven today as well. Why? Well because, when it comes to the true and living God, there’s a lot to sing about! Amen?
Also notice here in verse 3 that, as God's people were blessing him in song, the Lord that made heaven and earth..blessed them back. And, again, I strongly suspect that remains true today as well. Have you blessed him yet today? Why don’t you take a minute and just make up a little song of blessing to the Lord and sing it to him? It doesn't have to have a great melody or even great words. As long as it comes from your heart, the Lord will love it. And, I’m sure he will reciprocate by blessing you back.
