#Values We value raising up Biblical leadership @ImageChurch Dumfries, VA

Moses is dead! Now the torch of leadership has passed to Joshua

1. Leadership is unceasing faith and growing prayer.

A leader can only be as effective as their prayer life.

As a Christian, prayer is essential. Prayer is not just an act, it is an attitude. Joshua is hanging on every word that is coming from God, and doing so intently.

Soul food is not just the things that we consume, but food that satisfies our souls, this is found ONLY in the Word of God.

Faith has the connotation of expectancy. It is not just a knowledge, but the expectation that God will guide us to His will, but we must be willing to forsake our individual desires if they don't match up.

2. Leadership is not just influence; it's obedience to God's truth.

When we are constantly aware of something, we can better react when things come up. Prayer is an attitude, not just an action.

Hitler had great influence, he was a great leader. But he did not have obedience to God's word. Leadership is more than influence. We need to make sure our focus is on more than just personality and persuasiveness when looking for leaders, for training up leaders, for investing in others.

3. Leadership pertains to casting vision, both personal and public.

Leadership demands sacrificing. You must be willing to sacrifice of yourself to invest into others & time.

The burden of a vision is the ability to sacrifice what makes you comfortable for the things that God has put a desire in your heart.

Be strong and courageous! This is being strong in the Word of God and be courageous to obey the Word of God. We obey because we love.

cf Hebrews 13:17

When you face conviction as a powerful, positive thing, we can be strong and courageous. Conviction is like getting a vaccine, changing us.

4. Leadership is about knowing who to follow.

The Pharisees could stand Jesus, but they found out they couldn't stop Him!
