The Book of Revelations is more than just prophecy. It is a Book that helps us better understand our Savior Jesus Christ.
Jesus warned the Church of Smyrna that they will soon suffer for His Name. Jesus wants us to know that He is the First and Last to suffer and to overcome. He knows all and has suffered before you. He knows what you are going through and will go through. Jesus is in the midst.
The Church in Smyrna was poor by the worlds standards. However, Jesus said this Church was rich because of the inheritance they would share through Him.
Jesus says the Church, "Be faithful." Whatever you encounter, be faithful. Your faith in Me will save you.
Polycarp was one of the early martyrs of the Church in Smyrna. His faith brought Him before the pro counsel of Rome bound. At 86 years old he was demanded to worship the Emperor or forfeit his life. The pro counsel threatened to burn him to death if he didn't renounce Jesus Christ. His response, "You threaten me with fire that burns for an hour and will then be extinguished. Why do you tarry? Do to me what you will." He was then burned to death.
When you encounter persecution what will be your response? Jesus says "Be faithful" and as promised I will give you the Crown of Life.
