Trials and Temptations
Temptation is the desire to perform an action that one may enjoy immediately or in the short term but will probably later regret for various reasons.
Temptation varies from trial.
Trials are tests that can have a positive outcome, mostly coming from God, to strengthen our resolve and faith. And help us grow. Temptation is always from the enemy. To scrutinise, entice and ensnare us into evil.
What is the purpose of temptation.
To undermine the plans and will of God. He undermined God in Genesis with Eve in the Bible.
To move man, deviate their attention from God's way.
To make us believe that we are able to do things on our own. By mailing things simple and easy and look reachable without God's help.
Comfort is the greatest deceiver.
The enemy uses these three categories to tempt man:
Lust of the eyes
Lust of the flesh
Pride of life
The enemy used the same categories to tempt Jesus.
Mathew 4 vs 3 - 11
Eyes lust - vs 9
Flesh lust - vs 3
Pride of life - vs 6
Is temptation sin?
No. Falling for temptation is the sin. It is not a sin to be tempted, but falling for it is the sin.
Hebrews4 vs 15, Jesus was tempted, but he overcame.
Why do we fall for sin?
The temporal pleasure is very appealing. And most forget that it is just temporal. To avoid hardship, we fall for temptation, because it gives us a temporary relief that seems like the answer, instead of enduring the hardship or work, and then finishing strong.
Our weapon is the word, the word is the bible, the embodiment of our lord Jesus Christ.
