Joshua was a good servant of God that became a Great Leader (Because he always consulted with God)
In Joshua Chapter 6:2 The Lord promised Joshua the Victory in fact He gave Joshua explicit detailed instructions on what exactly to do to prevail in this battle of Jericho, and God came through and gave Joshua and Israel a Glorious Victory
But After receiving this Glorious Victory by the Lord , (Joshua went on his own understanding, "It went to his head") and this time he did NOT consult with the All knowing God full of grace and wisdom but instead he took it upon himself (After All Joshua had just lead Israel into a Glorious Victory at Jericho) so Joshua himself (without consenting with God) sent his men to spy Ai (and His men advised Joshua only 3 thousand men were needed because Ai was only small they could take them easy)
So Joshua did NOT consult with God but instead leaned upon his own understanding and heard the voice of man Vs the voice of God ( If Joshua would have consulted with God, the Lord would have warned him that there was sin in the camp) and would have instructed Joshua on what to do !
