This was the best response that the Israelites could have made. They mourned over the potential loss of the presence of God. They could have accepted God's deal; He'll give them the Promised Land and lend a hand in removing their enemies but He wouldn't be present. That would have shown that they loved God's blessings more than His presence.
They needed to repent. So they stopped doing outwardly things in order to get inwardly right.
They weren't interested in having fun or a good time. They didn't focus on their happiness. They knew the gravity of His holy presence leaving would ultimately bankrupt them spiritually. http://glo.to/l?1=02033004
