The End and Ultimate Solution to Evil

As I write down my thoughts on Psalm 140 this morning, I am looking out on a stormy sea from the balcony of my brother’s second floor condo in South Padre Island ... way down here at the “tip of Texas”. The surf is pounding, due to the recent hurricane, Isaac, that came in northeast of us … and the skies are filled with dark clouds. The radar tells me there are thunder storms about to sweep over us. It is a fitting setting for contemplating this Psalm which focuses on the problem of evil and the reality of wicked men in our everyday lives.

As it is with you and me, the writer of this Psalm was constantly being confronted with evil and the presence of wicked men. Truly, the Dark Kingdom constantly affects each of us personally and profoundly. But, the solution to it all, as the Psalmist so clearly sets before us, is squarely and rightfully in the hands of our great and good God.

When I first cranked up my computer this morning, I found that my brother, Ron, had left me a message. It said, “I watched the sunrise out over the ocean this morning. It reminded me that the Son is coming.” Amen, brother Ron! And therein lies the ultimate solution to evil and wickedness. Jesus is coming! Jesus is going to take care of it. Two scriptures come to mind and, with them, I will leave you to fill in the blanks with your own thoughts as the Lord teaches you about this subject.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Eph 6:11-13

Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 1 Cor 15:24-26
