power of words
there is a scene in Schindlers List where the owner of the factory, Schindler, is invited to the office of Goth, the nazi kommendant of the concentration camp where the factory's jewish employees and their families are imprisoned. Schindler enters to see Goth casually shooting out the window, killing a little boy, who had been playing or working but certainly doing no-one any harm. Schindler gets Goth to put his rifle down, saying something like "do you think that is power? do you want to know what real power is? any fool can take life, that's too easy. real power is the power to give life. the power to allow one of them to stay alive, not because you have to, but because you choose to, because you are able to, then you know you have real power."
