where is our will directing us?
So a pilot uses a small rudder to direct his ship. It follows then that whether we like it or not it is our will that is determining what is coming out of our mouths. Though we might like to chalk some of the things we say to a "weak moment", this is simply not true. If we allowed a moment of gossip, it's because we wished to gossip. If we say something hurtful it's because we wanted to hurt. To truly take control of our mouths the way James is exhorting us to, we must examine the heart behind the things that flow from our mouths.
