The Universal Sign of Surrender

"Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord." (Psalm 134:2 KJV)

I use to think that only those "Spirit Filled" or "charismatic" or "Pentecostal" churches did the lifting hands thing during the praise and worship part of service which involves music and singing...

Several years ago I found this verse which revealed to me that it wasn't a denominational thing or a churchy thing - it is a Biblical thing -- it's a God pleasing thing! I am thankful my parents and church experience lead me to doing this liberating thing - the obedient thing - the surrender thing.

As you go to your place of worship today (which for me will be the back of a big airplane as I head out for another trip) I would encourage you to do the "right thing" and show God you give up! As Woody in "Toy Story" says "reach for the skies!"

An outward display of an inward condition is not just appropriate - its obedient!

Unless you think you're still in control and better at running your life than God is - put your hands in the air, as shown in the Old Testament by Moses during the battle against the Amalekites (Ex 17), it can be a matter of victory or defeat! As the Commanding General told us in Iraq: "We need to fight to win and win this fight!"

It takes a lot more strength to surrender than you think; but it's the only way to win and have peace in this battle not against flesh and blood - in which the Lord fights for you, His glory is your rear guard, and He is a shield all around you! He never loses, he never fails - He is faithful, forever; and He's your Father.

Peace,
Adam
