Harvey
11 Years ago today, Satan was doing his best to cause pain, sadness and death. As we have been taught you can fight back against evil. And one retired fire boat was not going to sit there while the city was in crises. Her name is Harvey, John J. Harvey. A retired fire boat docked down in the Hudson near the towers. She took commission on December 17, 1931. Two years after the stock market crash and 70 years before the biggest tragedy to ever strike New York City. It was just an ordinary day in September when American Airlines flight 11 and United Airlines flight 175 crashed into the twin towers. Nearly 3000 people would die that day -but thanks to the "little fire boat who could," hundreds of lives would be saved. Chase Wells, Chief Engineer Tim Ivory, Tomas Caballero, Andrew Future and Huntley Gill saw their city under seige and they heeded the call to action. Meeting spontaneously at pier 63 maritime they took Harvey out of retirement. On their first mission, they rescued a trapped crowd from the sea wall near Battery Park, tugging 150 people to safety. And that was just the beginning. Always look for signs from God. Sometimes your chance to do something beautiful to change the life of others is staring you in the face. Even in a situation that seems hopeless.
