what does it take to be a friend?
Today the President quoted the first of these 3 verses (in the KJV) - Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Taken all alone, without any context this verse is suitable for public discourse - especially considering the context in which the President used the verse.
I do not intend to imply anything negative about the President or his use of Scripture in this note, I simply would like to highlight the surrounding meaning of this love and why Jesus talks about friends.
It is my hope that more people will desire to be friends of God and not His enemies. This could launch into a debate over Who God is, but since we're centering on Scripture, we're accepting what Scripture says: namely: Jesus is God.
What we will see when we read on, as Jesus completed the thought is that in order to be His friend, we must do what He commands. Now... What does He command? Read on to find out; then do it, and you've got a friend indeed!
What a friend we have in Jesus...
