Flaws in the Righteous

David, this lieing, wife-stealing, adulterous, murderous, deceiver was a man after God's own heart.

One year has passed and finally Nathan confronts the king. He has been leading the people. Out of his guilt he sings this song.

Yes, we are men and women after God's own heart but we find ourselves commiting these same sins, sometimes.

We can try to hide these things, but it is useless because they are known by God even still, and like David, they may be done openly against us.

We know that God's love is unfailing because He did not remove David from the throne; His grace is upon him. In the first verses he calls upon His great compassion and forgiveness to make this sin and his guilt go away; he's been looking at this child of sin for at least the last 3 months.

He knows what instruction He had given him in order to rule in righteousness and he knows that his rebellion was a sin against Him alone. He felt guilty in the presence of God. It steals the joy from your relationship with God.

You start to resist praising in worship, because the song didn't "move" you. You start to say ths pastor was lacking in the sermon, bethe message didn't "move" you. In truth the problem lies within the rebellious spirit within you because you know where your relationship with God is and you are resisting.

David acknowledges his sin from the point of his conception, and rightly so. There are no good men and good women. We are incorrectly categorizing people because we use each other as the standard. We are not the standard. The Christ is and was. If you want to think yourself a good person, compare yourself to Him and see how you measure up.

Understandably, sometimes we feel fatigued and overwhelmed with the duties and burdens of this life. But it is then when we must ask for the spirit to sustain us so that we may still do that which we ought to do. To sustain us so that we will study the word when we ought to, and commune with him as often as we commune with each other.

This song is about ourselves and our sinful nature, but even more so about God's nature and His relationship to us even in those times. It's how God makes available compensation for the flaws of the righteous in order to preserve our fellowship with Him.
