The Love Passage

"Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails!"

Why did God instruct Paul to write this to the Corinthians. God's definition of Love differs from ours does it not? Of course we have heard it and we honestly try to stand by it's principles but people are people and sometimes we are selfish, quick tempered, less than the ideal that God has laid out before us. But why is it important here.
Looking back in the previous chapter, Paul is talking about spiritual gifts and the concept of one body. God gives the spiritual gifts as he see's fit and all are an important part of his plan. But we humans hold different standards for them and apply importance to them that just is not part of God's plan. For example, most people in a church know the pastor and some might even get jealous of his stature in the church. And if they don't like his teaching, feel as if they could do better. Now lets take the person who cleans the church. Not many people want to switch places with them. They might think they could do a better job, but not likely to want to switch places. But God looks at it so much different. Yeah the pastor is held accountable for his teaching, but God assigned each of them their part and if the cleaning person does the cleaning for the Glory of God, then is God not just as pleased. I think Yes!
So I think the Love passage is not just about marriage, it's about how we treat others in life. We are all important to God's plan. We all have a part to play that God designed just for us. And it does not really matter if we are the preacher or the cleaner, if we don't love - God's way - what we do is not important. That's big. We can go to church and do all the "religious" things but if we don't love those around us, then it's useless in God's eyes and makes us irrelevant in the eyes of the world. Love is the only thing that will draw others to God. Singing beautifully won't do it, preaching masterful sermons won't do it, it's loving them. Doing for the non-believer the very same thing that God has done for us. He loved me to him. Print out the Love passage and post it to your mirror. This is the Heavenly Father that loves us.
