The ways of the World

"Our bodies are like tents that we live in here on earth. But when these tents are destroyed, we know that God will give us each a place to live..."
Much emphasis is placed on our bodies, in fact million dollars industries are built on diets to get it just right, clothes so it looks just right, and if all that fails, surgery to fix it. As someone who has allowed this condition to continue in her life, I find it quite amusing that Paul refers to us as tents. When I was in the Army, we would go to the field MANY times as practice, to be able to do our jobs during a time of war, and we lived in tents. Regardless of the size of a tent, if it is not taken care of it leaks or tears and has to be patched to continue to work. To a soldier I don't think any of us cared what it looked like, just that it was leak proof and kept the warm (such as it was) air in. In other words the tent did the job it was made to do.
The world will have you believe that it's more important how you look. And we buy into it! I agree with exercise, I agree with eating healthy, I agree that everyone wants to look their best. What I don't agree with is that you are somehow less important if you are not fitting the mold that society has made. We lose sight of what is really important here. The body or tent as Paul says is replaced, it's the soul that inhabits the new home. We spend millions of dollars to TRY to fix something that is dying all while we ignore the soul that never dies. I am not saying that eating right, getting healthy is not good, what I am saying is that if you are kingdom minded, then the your focus is more on your soul than on your body. That body ages and as Paul tells us will be destroyed. Your soul is eternal - with God or without him.
