Stay at the Cross/ True Repentance
Some people felt deep remorse for Jesus as He was tortured on the cross. They "beat their breast" which was a sign of deep anguish. But even with all the outward signs of remorse, those people "returned". They went back to their same old ways. They were emotionally moved but their was no true repentance. But Jesus' acquaintances stayed with Him.
You may feel bad about things you do in life but true remorse involves you staying at the cross and not returning. Staying at the cross means constantly being in a position of dying to yourself. The cross is place of death. But it's also a place of hope. God has clearly spoken to me saying, "Son, true repentance isn't just feeling bad, it's clinging to the cross constantly." We get so caught up in trying our hardest not to sin but the true battle for us trying to love Jesus more and more. Father, give us the power and desire to love you more each day. Amen.
