Foreigner

Foreigner

Genesis 19

Ok, I see the Lord is VERY merciful, because maybe Lot should've been destroyed too!
Offering his virgin daughters up for rape to save 2 guest he doesn't know?
He tells the perverted men..

I have two daughters who have never had sex. I'll bring them out, and you can do what you want with them. But don't harm these men. They are guests in my home.” (GENESIS 19:8 CEV)

Granted, he didn't know his guest were angels, but angels didn't want to see his daughters given to barbaric lustful perverted men....they're angels-not demons!

The sexual sins of this city were wearing off on Lot. He obviously wasn't thinking very fatherly or clearly!

Lot tries to keep them outside...

“Don't get in our way,” the crowd answered. “You're a foreigner. What right do you have to order us around?
We'll do worse things to you than we're going to do to them.”
The crowd kept arguing with Lot. Finally, they rushed toward the door to break it down. (GENESIS 19:9 CEV)

You're a "foreigner" Lot! What are YOU going here?
This place isn't for you!

As these guys begin to break in the angels step in!

But the two angels in the house reached out and pulled Lot safely inside. Then they struck blind everyone in the crowd, and none of them could even find the door. (GENESIS 19:10, 11 CEV)

They're blind anyways. Blind to God and His ways, His morals, His love.

The two angels said to Lot, “The [Lord] has heard many terrible things about the people of Sodom, and he has sent us here to destroy the city. Take your family and leave. Take every relative you have in the city, as well as the men your daughters are going to marry.” (GENESIS 19:12 CEV)

Early the next morning the two angels tried to make Lot hurry and leave. They said, “Take your wife and your two daughters and get away from here as fast as you can!
If you don't, every one of you will be killed when the [Lord] destroys the city.”
At first, Lot just stood there. But the [Lord] wanted to save him. So the angels took Lot, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and led them out of the city. (GENESIS 19:15, 16 CEV)

Was he hesitating because he enjoyed living there!!!
Has he become desensitized to the sin around him!

The sun was coming up as Lot reached the town of Zoar, and the [Lord] sent burning sulfur down like rain on Sodom and Gomorrah. (GENESIS 19:23, 24 CEV)

Just like that...its done! God destroys the sinful city!

Lot was afraid to stay on in Zoar. So he took his two daughters and moved to a cave in the hill country. One day his older daughter said to her sister, “Our father is old, and there are no men anywhere for us to marry. Let's get our father drunk! Then we can sleep with him and have children.” (GENESIS 19:30-32 CEV)

Between her, her sister and Lot,
it seems the whole family has been deeply effected by the sin they were living around...his daughters are warped too!

God saved Lot because of His covenant with Abraham! Not because Lot was worthy!

When God destroyed the cities of the valley where Lot lived, he remembered his promise to Abraham and saved Lot from the terrible destruction. (GENESIS 19:29 CEV)

His wife could've been saved too!

On the way, Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a block of salt. (GENESIS 19:26 CEV)

Was she thinking about the new
furniture she was leaving behind?
The great job?
The parties?

The Lord made a lasting statement here didn't he ?
He doesn't want us looking back...longingly - at the sin we have left behind.

We're all foreigners here on earth..
Just wanting to get through...
Let's get through! Let's not look back at what we were...
But what we are!

God saved Lot because of His covenant with Abraham!
Not because Lot was worthy!

And He saved me because of His Son Jesus....
Not because I'm worthy!
