"My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry" (James 1:19).
How different relationships would be if we would simply heed the advice is this verse. It's interesting to note that we are not instructed not to speak, but rather to focus more on listening, and then after careful consideration, speak without anger.
"If angry, do not sin: do not let the sun go down while still angry"
This verse indicates that anger is an okay part of relationships, but that it needs to be done in a proper way, with the goal of reconciling, or at least letting go of anger before going to bed at night.
"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1).
Anger is a common problem in close relationships. During arguments, the anger level usually increases. A soft answer in the midst of conflict can reduce the level of anger.
