The Millennial Prayer and Sure Hope of David the King of Israel

Make no mistake about it, David, the ancient king of Israel, anticipated and longingly looked forward to the day that his God would come down to Earth, deliver his people from their enemies and establish his eternal Jewish Kingdom here. Literally? Yes. Historically? Yes. Permanently? Yes. David’s words and prayerful requests found in this Psalm are full of it. And, so it shall come to pass. The scriptures in both the Old Testament and the New are also replete with it and are detailed and clear.

So, the day will come when king David himself … king David of old (following his resurrection at the end of the Great Tribulation) … will literally enter this long anticipated Kingdom and become a “prince” there forevermore. As the prophet Ezekiel puts it,

“I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another. I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the LORD have spoken. I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of wild beasts so that they may live in the desert and sleep in the forests in safety. I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. The trees of the field will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them.” Ezek 34:22-27

At that day, David’s prayer, here in verse 5, will be answered with power and great glory at the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Happy” indeed “is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord.” (v. 15).

One last thought here on verse 1 where it says,

“Blessed be the LORD my strength which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight…”

So it was with king David and, by way of application, so it is with you and me today, dear saint. The Lord’s tactics have not changed. He is still in the teaching to fight and strengthening his peoplebusiness today. As we have it in Ephesians 6:10-18,

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Now... until our Lord comes ... go fight!
