Paul was asking something of Philemon far more than just forgiving someone who had wronged him... He was asking him o put aside the worldview which defined the way he lived ( a worldview shaped by a class structured society).
So often as we embrace Christianity we fit God into our existing worldview rather than allowing Him to restructure our worldview. Even after years as a Christain we can be blissfully unaware how much we still cling to family values and society's norms.
Welcoming Onesimus back, treating him as an equal/ as a brother would have a major overhaul of Philemon's thinking, a willingness to accept the derision of those about him who would not understand and perhaps even a material / financial loss...may I be equally as willing to do so in my life.
