True faith and giving

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You? ’
“And the King will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ Then He will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels!
For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger and you didn’t take Me in;
I was naked and you didn’t clothe Me,
sick and in prison and you didn’t take care of Me.’
“Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You? ’
“Then He will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.’
“And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

This seems pretty straightforward. Jesus says that the righteous feed the hungry, give something to drink to the thirsty, entertain strangers in their home, clothe the naked, care for the sick and visit prisoners. The wicked do not do those things.

I must be doing these things but GOD doesn't want me to do them out of obligation but rather from the heart. I must love others and serving others will be born from that (Gal 5:13, 1 Pe 4:10-11). I could never do enough good works to merit salvation but faith in Jesus with no works is dead and worthless (Ja 2:14-26). Feeding the hungry is not too hard to do because there are so many places that are dedicated to that where I could go a serve. Inviting strangers into my home is much more difficult as it carries more risk. It also gets me out of my comfort zone because this usually involves close, personal contact with someone outside my own social network. It's easy to take care of those who are similar to me but GOD didn't call me to do what is most comfortable. He called me to serve Him unashamedly and without worrying about my own security. It may make me uncomfortable and carry risk with it but Jesus didn't do what was comfortable and socially acceptable either. He always took what was acceptable and turned it upside down. Jesus even goes so far as to say when I have a big dinner I shouldn't invite those who are closest to me but rather I should invite those who have nothing (Lu 14:12-14). He doesn't say "if" - He says "when."

GOD of abundance and bounty there is none beside You. Thank You for being such an awesome Provider. Please forgive me when I refuse to get out of my comfort zone to serve You. Please teach me to trust in Your provision and protection so that I will serve those around me without worrying. Please show me how to be more like You Jesus - spending time with all the "wrong" and socially unacceptable people. Please teach me how to serve others every single day. Please forgive me of my arrogance when I feel like I'm doing well in my serving. Please remove that attitude of "I'm serving others well" and put into me an attitude of humility. I cannot do this without You. I surrender to You. Please make me more Christ-like in every way. Thank You. All glory be Yours forever - in the name of Jesus amen.
