The danger of perverted truth

Truth perverted against God's people and Kingdom. From the fall of Adam and Eve, to the temptations of Christ, to the culture of our current generation, Satan skillfully uses truth to camouflage his destructive lies. All believers have had to face this tactic. This was exactly what was happening within many churches during the end of the first century. Christianity was about 70 years old, yet it had already been forced to face the perversion of truth by wolves in sheep's clothing.

These "wolves" had taken the glorious truth of God's limitless grace in Christ and reworked it. They presented it to be God's acceptance of all manner of sin that violated the entire meaning and purpose of grace. Jude tells us they "turn the grace of our God into lewdness". The grace that God brought through Christ to both forgive all sin and transform all sinners became a license to continue in the lewdness of a pagan world.

this reminds them of the horrible results when fallen angels, Sodom and Gomorrah,
embraced perverted truth. In light of this, Jude calls them and us to "contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints", and also to build spiritual armor to protect them from deception.

Clearly, our generation faces the same issues faced in Jude's day. Now, they are promoted by very aggressive forces seeking to tear down believers and validate Satan's lies. Jude's instructions also apply to us, today. First we are to actively build up faith in the truths of God. Secondly, we are to live lives kept and defined by God's love. Finally, we are to live looking forward to God's all-encompassing mercy to be fully realized when we enter into a glorious and eternal new dimension of reality. Let's take heed!
