The Fear of the Lord

The Fear of the Lord

Job mentions that "the fear of the Lors" is wisdom. What does it mean to fear the Lord? Does it mean to be afraid of Him? Hardly. How shall we be afraid of someone who has done so much to secure our salvation? He went so far as to give His only begotten Son son so that we may be saved.

The Fear of the Law

Fearing God means to respect Him and take Him seriously, because He is a God of His Word. He honors and exalts the righteous and executes judgment upon the wicked.

The fear of the Lord is kind of like the fear of the law, in terms of law enforcement (ideally). People have the fear of the law because they know that the law executes punishment on lawbreakers. At the same time, law enforcement protects and serves people. Like God, who protects us and provides for our needs.
