Immediately he got up, picked up the mat, and went out in front of everyone. As a result, they were all astounded and gave glory to God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this! ”

The crowd gave no glory to Jesus the man rather they gave it to GOD. Jesus is not seeking glory for Himself. Indeed throughout His entire ministry He seeks glory only for the Father (Jn 8:54). This may seem strange since Jesus is GOD. Jesus is 100% GOD and 100% man. The man Jesus though never sought His own glory. He always pointed all glory back to the Father. If He is GOD then why would He do this? Jesus must do this because He came as an example for all those who would follow GOD. Jesus is doing this to show all Christians how to live a holy life. No Christian should accept any glory from others. All glory must be directed back to GOD every single time. Any glory or exaltation that comes to a Christian must come from GOD and from nowhere else (1 Pe 5:6).

If the man Jesus redirected all glory away from Himself then I absolutely must do the same. I must not allow even the slightest bit of glory to come toward me. Seeking my own glory is prideful and must be crushed as it has caused the downfall of many including satan (c.f. Nu 16:1-33, Is. 14:11-20).

GOD of all Glory there is none who deserves the glory but You. You are more glorious than I could ever imagine or comprehend. Please forgive me for being prideful and accepting even the smallest fraction of glory. Please teach me how to point and direct all glory back to You every time. I don't want to desire any glory for myself ever. Please help me always to reject glory for myself. I cannot do this on my own as through my flesh I am deeply drawn to pride and my own glory. I therefore submit to You and ask You to take over me. All glory be Yours forever in the name of Jesus' amen.
