So the first commandment with a promise is one that can cause two things to happen (obeying and honoring our parents).

That it may go well.

When we disobey God by dishonoring our parents, we commit ourselves to live a life of disorder, one that is absent from peace. Peace is something that cannot be purchased, it can only be be given by God.

That you may live long in the land.

This was a promise, originally, for the Israelites. So how does it it apply to us? You don't have to live a long amount of time to live a rich and valuable life. Jesus is proof that 3 years is plenty to change the world, we just have to use each moment wisely.

Honor your parents.

If you are still living at home, obey your parents.
